Emerald Black Jade Pendant Elaborately Three-Dimensional Carving, Certified

About the Item

This incredible, substantial, masterfully carved natural and untreated omphacite jade (fei cui) jade pendant features three-dimensionally carved birds nestled among highly detailed wide blades of grass, while coyly discrete ruyi (mushroom) are brilliantly folded into the thicket. This substantial pendant measures 59.29mm high not including the bail; 72.83 with. It's 43.39mm wide and 11.35mm thick. Most fine carved jade pendants are about 5mm thick. It's a powerful and dramatic jade pendant. You'll want a thick, sturdy chain for this treasure. The Reverse is carved with subtle symbols and textures; both matt-finished and high gloss. The pictures describe it much better than I. An 18k white gold bail set with a smattering of diamonds (including a lovely central marquise-cut) together total approximately 1 carat or more. You can wear the pendant with either side showing, but with the more abstract side facing out, the diamonds on the bail will not show. Which is fine with me, because the diamonds are very white (G/H) and closely follow the lines of the white gold bail. The spectacular color of this omphacite jade is a pure emerald green, so saturated and so thick that it at first could appear black. Unlike black jade, which is also green if you shine a bright light through it, this carved pendant is green; just a bottomlessly deep emerald green. It's one of my all-time favorite jade pendants. Although it was created in China in 1980, it has been sealed away and never worn. The pendant ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is untreated omphacite jade. The chain is not included.

  • Jade Pendant, Vivid Green, Impeccable Carving, Certified Untreated Chromium Jade
    Located in Southbury, CT
The jade carving you see here is no ordinary jade carving. It is a variety of jade known as kosmochlor jade. What, you ask, is kosmochlor jade? Well, it is also known as chromium jadeite. And chromium is the chemical element that gives jadeite its legendary emerald-green coloring. Chromium also gives South American emeralds their legendary emerald green coloring. Chromium jadeite is like jade with an extra helping of green. It's intensely colored jade that is also intensely beautiful. The jade carving has been certified by Stone Group Labs to be untreated kosmochlor jade from Burma. As the lab certificate explains, "Jadeite, Omphacite and Kosmochlor are distinct yet closely related minerals, commonly intergrown. Western countries refer to all as jade and by their more specific names when identification is possible. In Asia, they may all be collectively referred to as Fei Cui. Kosmochlor may also be referred to as chromium jadeite." The 14K yellow gold pendant dates to the 1940s and the hand-carved jade depicts flowers, a coin, and what I believe is fungi. Prosperity, longevity; these themes are found repeatedly in Chinese jade carvings...
