About the Item
An exquisite and finely crafted ruby and clear paste necklace designed by Marcel Boucher in the 1960s. It has the unusual feature of a 'double clasp' at the back, the mid section in the form of a bow, the clasp allowing the wearer to shorten or lengthen the necklace. Classic and elegant, this is Boucher at his very best, employing his deep knowledge of the design and construction of real jewellery (working for Cartier), beautifully expressed in this stand out necklace.
Marcel Boucher manufactured costume jewellery from 1937 through until 1971, based in New York. He is one of the greatest designers of costume jewellery, if not the greatest. Mixing impeccable style, design and colouring, the pieces are always of the highest quality. Having worked as an apprentice to Cartier in France, his knowledge of fine jewellery nurtured many of the wonderfully conceived designs we now see, from his beginnings in the 1930s, through the 1950s and 60s.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. The clear pastes on this necklace are all clean, with very slight, if any , yellowing. The metal is in excellent condition, the necklace retaining its very 'real' look.
