Vintage Sterling Silver Bangle Hallmarked Birmingham 1939 Hand Engraved Bracelet
About the Item
This beautiful bangle is WWII vintage era.
It is crafted in solid sterling silver and features hand engraved flower design. It was crafted in Birmingham in 1939, the very year that WWII began. Perhaps it was from a soldier about to leave for battle? If only it could talk.
It bears the hallmarks for Birmingham, the date stamp plus the makers mark of S&P for Smith & Pepper Ltd who were manufacturing jewellers in Vyse Street, Birmingham. Interestingly, the Smith & Pepper factory is now the Birmingham Museum in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham today.
The bangle is very well made. The hinge is strong and in good working order and the clasp clicks securely shut with safety chain. The piece measures approximately 1.5cms wide with an internal circumference of around 17cms, so it will fit a medium to large wrist. The piece is in excellent, vintage condition with one long dent and a couple of very minor dents which we have captured in the pictures. This beautiful piece weighs 23.20 grams and bears the lion mark for sterling silver.
