A Meiji/Taisho Period Street Vendor Stool, Cedar Timbers. Japan, early 1900s
About the Item
A most probably Meiji/Taisho period street vendor stool, constructed of
cedar timbers. Originating from Japan and dating from the early 1900s with handpainted Japanese text characters.
Befitting of interiors that blend pieces of different styles and ages and
also those that harness the stripped-back, primitive, rustic, wabi-sabi
aesthetic that is so on trend currently and embraces and helps us see
natural beauty in imperfection. The piece has amazing patina that only time
can create.
Condition: The piece naturally shows wear commensurate with its age and the
practical use it would have once served. Some of the age characteristics are
no longer active woodworm, some losses and imperfections - as there are
minimal fixings there will be little wobbles and in general please expect
the endearing quirks of a piece this age and type.
