Kate Noakes 'Bloc-repeat' XL Cabinet.
About the Item
A mid-century cabinet that has been reconditioned and reimagined by designer and maker Kate Noakes. Kate uses a unique process that she has developed of cutting her original designs in sheet metal that are applied onto existing furniture and then inlaid with gesso. A form of modern marquetry that creates a durable, functional and dynamic veneer that transforms the furniture back to a new and vibrant life.
This ‘bloc-repeat’ design was inspired by Kate’s love of Industrial Design and architecture. From this Industrial inspiration she wanted to create a jewel-like sideboard with a Minimalist elegance. The design carries over to the sides and top - it is also possible to continue the design onto the back so the piece can be free standing if required. The colour of the gesso can also be customised.
Due to the nature of Kate’s work this sideboard is an example of past work, and is a guide of what can be commissioned. This design can be applied to any style of furniture. Kate will liaise with you to source a piece that suits your requirements, any of her designs can then be applied.

Kate Noakes
Kate Noakes has worked with metal since falling in love with it as a material while studying for a BA (Hon) in Fine Art. It has been the driving force behind her career, first as a sculptor and lecturer and now as a designer and maker of furniture. Initially inspired by the work of Andre Charles Boulle, “furniture jeweller” at the court of Louis X1V, Kate has developed a process of applying her original designs cut in sheet metal onto existing furniture which are then inlaid with gesso. A form of modern marquetry that creates a durable, functional and dynamic veneer that transforms furniture back to a new and vibrant life. Kate’s furniture sits comfortably in both contemporary and traditional settings.
Since launching her first collection at the London Design Festival in 2012, Kate has worked extensively with private clients and interior designers to source the original furniture and then to transform it into unique statement pieces. She has work in public and private collections in the UK and USA. Due to the nature of Kate’s work most of the furniture listed here are examples of past work, it is a guide of what can be commissioned. Kate will liaise with you to source a piece that suits your requirements, any of her designs can then be applied. The colour of the gesso can also be customised
This design can be used on any style of furniture. The colour of the gesso can be customised.

- Ziqqurat Cabinet XL Floral and Walnut by DriadeBy DriadeLocated in Beverly Hills, CAWhat could the design of a storage cabinet be like today? This is the question DriadeLab, Driade’s observatory on contemporary lifestyles, asked itself when it started to research into this project. The result was Ziqqurat:a cabinet made up of different boxes that can be piled up to create everchanging forms. This system, constructive in all respects, can be used to create arrangements of three different sizes depending on the space available. The project’s source of inspiration, ancient sumerian pyramids, is no random choice: it is such a strong theme that it even gave its name to the cabinet. In 2020 Driade, the aesthetic laboratory par excellence, proposed an expansion of the Ziqqurat collection in the iconic patterns: romantic in the floral version with tassels or pop in the white and black geometric version with black handle. The collection is therefore enriched with new 'must have' pieces that are added to the three-heighted modular container and to the vertical one: small cabinet and extra small...Category
