Late 19th C. Louis XVI Style Giltwood Bridal Mirror
About the Item
A charming Louis XVI style giltwood bridal mirror from the late 19thc., decorated with floral motifs and a ribbon crest.
A bridal mirror was a traditional wedding gift dating as far back as Ancient Greek times. Often a gift given to the bride, along with a dowry chest, silver, and linens. A bridal mirror typically would have feet that could rest on a lip on her dowry chest, creating a traveling vanity since newly married couples would often not yet own a home of their own. Once they obtained a home, they would typically remove the feet on the mirror and hang the mirror normally.
