Royal Tichelaar Makkum Delft Table Lamps, Hand-Painted
About the Item
A one-of-a-kind pair of lamps, Kie & Vit have been lovingly handcrafted from gorgeous, vintage, hand-painted vases in a Delft style by Royal Tichelaar Makkum, the oldest ceramic company in the Netherlands, established circa 1572. Kie & Vit are named after the Dutch word for the Lapwing, a bird native to Friesland, which is where these vases, used as lamp bases, originate. They are paired with a custom contemporary lampshades in a soft sunny yellow satin, handmade in an atelier near Amsterdam.
The exquisite vases (or pul, jar with lid), which form the base of the lamp, were handmade and hand-painted by one of Royal Tichelaar Makkum’s master painters between 1940-60, as indicated by the marking on the bottom.
