Contemporary Minimalist Art Sculpture Landscape and Tree by Egor Plotnikov

About the Item

Egor Plotnikov works in the field of figurative painting and sculpture, often combining two media in one installation. He is one of the few contemporary Russian artists, whose works are equally represented both in traditional museums and in contemporary art venues. Plotnikov paints at canvases wastes, edges and front-end areas which are located at the limits of human habitation and wild nature and moves personage of painting, sculpture of viewer, out the edges of picture. Work of art starts to view itself inwardly. Big paintings are shrunk to small insignificant landscape fragments and personage-sculpture starts to hide from viewer. Empty wall/canvas/sheet of paper and space of exhibition hall are become communication field and important part of work of art. The “Subtractions” project is built around a single visual manoeuvre – white bars and geometric figures subtract a random part of a landscape, leaving the audience with a desire to “rebuild” the missing part in one’s imagination.

Museum quality artwork by Enric Mestre, born 1936 in Valencia Spain. Mestre is recognized worldwide, won many international awards and has participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions around the world. His sculptural objects seem sober spatial constructions: boxlike, slab built architectural structures of austere colours dominated by right angles. But appearances are deceptive: these objects have a poetic charm which saves them from only being rational and cold. Through dedication and commitment Mestre has pushed the technical boundaries of this demanding yet humble material, and helped elevate it to a sculptural art form in its own right. As one of the important artists of the Spanish school, his name is mentioned in the same breath as figures such as Jorge Oteiza...
