Bruno Rey "Planter" / Authentic Mid-Century Modern

About the Item

This item expresses a specific rawness. There is no need for precise execution or the desire to appear sophisticated. It is simple, self-evident, and direct. It is made out of basic elements, illustrating a new language: essential and cleared of everything irrelevant. Sculptural qualities define this object. A vivid dynamic between the different volumes and surfaces presents its expressive form. The square planter, designed by Bruno Rey, was manufactured as limited edition by Eternit AG, Switzerland, in ca. 1954. Item is made of Eternit. Solid pot is standing on thin tubular legs made of steel. Alive in the matter of material, it also reminds of a living organism, an insect, due to its proportions and relationship of the pot and the legs. It is a dismantlable piece which consist of three elements – the legs, the pot and the plate underneath it. The item is in its original condition. No additional restoration was made and patina is completely preserved. I see this charming piece as a detail with a strong character for both interior and exterior spaces. P! Galerie’s selection is mainly focused on design masterpieces between 1918 and 1970. Apart from rare French mid-century modern design artefacts by Pierre Jeanneret, Jean Prouvé, Le Corbusier, and Charlotte Perriand, our offer includes masterpieces of historic importance and value by Gerrit Rietveld, Lina Bo Bardi, Marcel Breuer, Oscar Niemeyer, or, for example, Eileen Gray. Following all ethical and juridical requirements, all items from our carefully curated collection come with a certificate of authenticity. We try to preserve as much of patina as possible during the process of restoration, as it defines these historic pieces. Not only do we cooperate with museums and offer auction houses our services and expert opinion, we also look forward to welcoming you as a private collector and connoisseur.

Mid-Century Modern Architectural Pottery sculptural "Double Cone" Planter by LaGardo Tackett , rarely seen double cone version with wider base than top in a white glaze. Provenance 1960s MCM building of the Odd Fellows Association Hall - St. Louis. It was used with sand for an ashtray , seen in photos 5 & 6. The 1960s MCM modification to an existing building was designed by architect William E. Duncan and demolished in the summer of 2020. Duncan not only selected these planters , the entire hall, had Saarinen , Eames, Nelson, Howard Miller and Nessen designs. The condition is good, only with minor scuffs, no chips and light staining to interior as seen in photos. Stamped Architectural Pottery made in the USA. When the planter is on its side, it reminds me of the famous brass drawer pull on Paul McCobb designed furniture.
