Jeff Koons
Balloon Dog (Blue)

2002

About the Item

The work by Jeff Koons Balloon Dog belongs to a limited edition of 2300 pieces. The sculpture, made of blue glazed porcelain, and measures 27x27 cm. Balloon Dog Blue belongs to a rare edition made by the artist in 2002 in collaboration with the MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) in Los Angeles for a special charity project. Among the most iconic subjects in contemporary art, Balloon Dogs are part of Jeff Koons Celebration series, which includes works created between the 1990s and the early 2000s in stainless steel with special paints. With Celebration, Jeff Koons wants to praise childhood, color and simplicity, remembering the joy of parties and birthdays. In 2013, a ten-foot-tall, orange Balloon Dog - Jeff Koons most famous sculpture - was auctioned at Christie's for the highest price in history for a living artist. Subsequently, the artist made smaller versions of it, diversifying its colours and its subject. The series includes balloons in the shape of a rabbit, snake, monkey, Venus and dog. Jeff Koons says he is fascinated by balloon animals because of their resemblance to humans.
