From the first visit to Vallauris, also known as “the city of hundred potters”, Pablo Picasso remained fascinated with the freedom and expressive nature of the ceramic medium. To satisfy his vigorous creativity, he begun to collaborate with Ramié couple, founder of the Madoura Atelier, in 1947 and it lasted for more than 20 years. Through the exploration of the new medium, the painter transcribes his most iconic subjects by manufacturing a wonderful universe of forms and textures. “Taureau gravé” expresses a fundamental living testimony, a constant reflection on the creative essence and the elaboration of the forms.
