Marlene Hilton Moore
Silent - large, figurative, narrative, bronze outdoor sculpture

1995

About the Item

As part of her ‘Listen to Hear’ series, Canadian artist Marlene Hilton-Moore has sculpted Silent, the lower half of a woman’s face, chin and closed lips set at an angle on the ground. It appears as a green patinated bronze fragment reminiscent of classical sculpture, but it carries a contemporary theme. “Listen to Hear engages the idea of listening. Do we listen, do we hear? Ultimately, we hear sound, but listening constructs meaning. Silence too is a part of listening.” Marlene Hilton-Moore Sculptor Marlene Hilton Moore was a teacher for 25 years and in 2010 she retired from her professorship at the School of Design and Visual Art, Georgian College in Ontario. Hilton-Moore has been a recipient of many prestigious public art commissions. She has received numerous awards and her work is held in many public and private collections.
