22 x 18 x 16" sculpture size (90" height with the base) powder coated red iridescent finish hand fabricated bronze, powder coated steel base Base dimensions 44" height, 9 x 9" base depth and witdth for outdoor or indoor installation fabricated 1997, refinished in powder coat 2018 There are two sides to any circle: the inside and the outside. In a similar way, there are two elusive forces at work when experiencing a Sally Hepler sculpture: simplicity and complexity. The most common first reaction to the graceful flowing sculptures is an acknowledgement of the palpable skill and sheer tenacity required to pull it off—in fact, there are hundreds of hours of hand-fabrication that go into each piece. Multiple templates from intricate models are enlarged and precisely cut from bronze or stainless steel; the separate elements are then shaped, welded, reshaped hydraulically, welded further, chased, patined, sealed, and mounted. But it is the sublime experience of purity, flow and wonder of each piece that ultimately transcends the viewer to a threshold of effortless joy and Zen mindfulness. As Hepler states, “The validity of a work of art is established by the originality of the creative concept and by the level of excellence achieved in its rendering. This combination, however tedious or difficult to accomplish, has the ability to raise the consciousness of the viewer to a higher level.” Born and raised in Springfield, Vermont, Sally Hepler has lived and worked in Santa Fe for over twenty years. After attending the University of New Hampshire, the University of Connecticut and Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree at the College of Santa Fe.

  • Big Love - Medium
    By Rainer Lagemann
    Located in Miami, FL
Powder-coated stainless steel. Unique. Born in Düsseldorf, Germany on September 14th, 1959, Rainer Lagemann studied in Abitur Albert Einstein Gymnasium from 1965 - 1978. Following this, he enrolled in the University of FH Detmold (1983 - 1987) where he studied Interior architecture and got a sense of himself - learned a lot about design, furniture, architecture and art. It was only in 2005 when Lagemann started welding and found his true passion and special talent for it. Concentrating on the human body in a modern interpretation of the classic art of sculpture, Rainer is fascinated by the human body and the classic theme of artistic expression and struggle that has been depicted in all shapes, materials and mediums since the existence of mankind. Rainer's sculptures capture the human body in motion--a freeze frame of classic, timeless gestures and emotions that are both ethereal and concrete. The forms he creates are how one would imagine the grace of a Nureyev or Baryshnikov in mid-flight. Rainer uses hollow metal squares to sculpt the human form, creating works that elicit both the strength and delicacy of the body. Each square represents the trials and tribulations of life, the four corners symbolizing the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual dimension of human beings that form the framework of the spirit and the image of the body. The hollow squares strip away distractions, leaving a powerful vision and exploration of the human body, adding an element of tangible levity and intangible abstraction. With all of Rainer's sculptures there is a secondary layer of beauty, abstraction and mystery. When darkness falls and the lights come on, the exquisite shadows of form, squares, body and spirit cast themselves upon the walls creating a second sculpture of light...
