About the Item
The artist's words:
"My artistic research like Genesis plunged me into incomprehension... How to understand matter made of vacuum. The atom which composes it only exists through the forces which animate it and which maintain a gigantic void space coherent 2 . 100,000 times the volume of the nucleus. We are built from this void and we walk on void. Our presence is illusory. Researchers explain to us that the cohesion of the atom and matter is due to the energy which maintains this atomic equilibrium. Astronomers take us on a tour of a universe resulting from the Big Bang where everything is only force expansion gravitation. The journey into the infinitely small then continues in space. I come back from these journeys with informal scenes or gestation of electrons temporises the dilation of time. I seek to materialize the concepts of energy and movement. My sculptures seek the appearance of the vibration of the reflection of the illusion of movement and fleeting balance. The composition of full and empty the contrasting finishes contribute to this research!”

Guillaume Roche
Guillaume Roche is a sculptor. Born in Lorient, graduated from the National School of Applied Arts in Paris, the artist works in Étrechy in Essonne. Stainless steel is his modeling ground. More than a favorite material, the artist obsessively pushes the limits of the material. The contrasts it provokes, solid suppleness, cold reflection, smooth roughness, massive lightness (...) give every day the tension necessary for the sculptor to work. The action is a constant round trip between body and matter. Athletic temporality where man develops the characteristics of the material through his own physical limits. But also intellectual, by the way he explores all the technical and mechanical properties of his metal skins. His research is carried out in a geometric work, which perpetuates the dynamics caused by stainless steel. Spheres, cubes, curves, parallel or perpendicular are the tools of the sculptor in the tension of his work. Form after form, each period is the deepening of a geometry in its monumental quest. His source of inspiration: the transformation of matter. It freely recomposes the metal plates cut with plasma and stamped with hammer-hammer. The artist translates movement and energy by the dynamism of the assemblages and seeks the balance of the composition. His sculptures offer us aerial movements, round shapes with powerful lines, delicate and sensual cuts. The contextualization of his Monumentales works, inscribes the approach of Guillaume Roche in the field of architecture: work of structure, lines, matter, study of a volume and its proportions according to a context and an environment. Monumental and yet light, he conceives his works, of a highly controlled stability, at the limit of their point of balance.

- "Ventalglio Necklace " a contemporary, fine gauge stainless steel necklaceLocated in Morgan Hill, CACrafted by the brilliant mind of New Mexico based jeweler, Julie Lake. The Ventaglio Necklace is a visually delicate, yet deceptively strong, complex architectural necklace. Featuring layers of interwoven three-dimensional geometric links, created from highly polished stainless steel wire. This piece is best worn against bare skin or dark-colored clothing, which allows the piece to create contrast with the high polish and displays the intricacy of the design. Hook can clasp onto any of the end links, allowing adjustment from 19.5"–22"L. Bio Julie Lake hand fabricates her metal work exclusively from a spring tempered, fine gauge stainless steel. She uses an arc welding process at precise settings to join the metal by melting and fusing it together at the tiny joints. The nature of this stainless steel, along with the welding process, allows Lake to create complex and visually fragile, yet deceptively strong forms with very small diameter wires. Although the welding of steel is typically regarded as an industrial process, Lake likens her technique to the domestic act of sewing or knitting. By way of welding, she methodically and repetitively stitches together the threads of stainless steel which accumulate into larger forms. Her decision to only create with this very specific material is quite minimalistic, but Lake engages with the material with multidisciplinary intent. Her work spans from large scale art installation, to design-driven functional items, to wearable and decorative pieces rooted in fine craft. This multidisciplinary approach allows the individual pieces to cross-pollinate with and inform each other. Lake's training as a maker started at a very young age. Her father, Ron Lake, is a machinist who went on to establish a career creating fine folding knives...Category
