HOMAGE TO THE PANTHERS is an original limited edition lithograph created using hand printmaking techniques on white archival fine art paper, 100% acid free. Pencil signed, titled, dated by Elizabeth Catlett on the lower margin, embossed with printers chop mark lower left, print documentation provided. HOMAGE TO THE PANTHERS is an impactful graphic statement by the African-American woman printmaker and sculptor, Elizabeth Catlett, created as a tribute to the famous late 1960's Black Power organization, The Black Panthers. Composition of geometric orange rust shapes, powerfully graphic dense black portrait heads, clenched fists and guns. The Black Panther Party's founding document, the Ten-Point program, addressed the major issues facing urban black communities with demands for full employment and adequate housing. The final demand summarized the goals of the Party: “We want land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice, and peace.” Year published - 1993 Edition size - 100 Print size - 37.5 x 23.5 inches, unframed, excellent condition, pencil signed by Elizabeth Catlett This print is Ms. Catlett's reinterpretation of her same-titled 1970 linoleum cut. It was commissioned by David Hilliard and Frederika Newton to raise funds for their founding of the Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation in 1993.
