About the Item

Slim Aarons Pool At Las Brisas, 1972 C print Estate stamped and numbered edition of 150 with Certificate of authenticity Guests in the pool at the Las Brisas Hotel, Acapulco, Mexico, February 1972. Slim Aarons (1916-2006) worked mainly for society publications photographing "attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places." Taking pictures of the rich and famous both before and after serving as a photographer for the US military magazine Yank during World War II. His work has been included in the publications Town and Country, Holiday, Venture, LIFE and most well known for his photograph Poolside Glamour. Closely aligned with Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson, Aarons declined to join them in the founding of Magnum, leaving behind the world of black and white for sun-dazed glamour and frivolity. His intimate portrayals of the in crowd and jet set are rich in the wit and charisma that afforded Aarons such incomparable access to the highest of societies. Print is available in 20 x 16", 30 x 20", 40 x 30", and 60 x 40 inch sizes. FAC Arts in New York is proud to represent Aarons' vast collection of negatives and transparencies. Spanning six decades of a lifestyle many dream of but few experience. Held at the Getty Images Hulton Archive, expert darkroom work on the originals allows us to print his images up to the largest photographic sizes, inviting us to step into these dazzling images of the good life.

Tom Kelley Woman With Umbrella c. 1950's C print 38 x 32 inches Caption: Woman in bikini sitting on beach holding umbrella, smiling, portrait. Tom Kelley’s interesting career spans more than four decades: first started as an apprentice in a New York photo studio that catered to the city's upper 400 (i.e. photographing the Vanderbilts, the Astors, the Harrimans, the Morgans, etc.). One of his biggest spot news assignments was covering the Lindbergh kidnapping case. Coming to California, Kelley was retained to photograph the stars created by David 0. Selznick and Samuel Goldwyn including Ingrid Bergman. A few of his other most famous subjects have been Gary Cooper, Greta Garbo, James Cagney, Clark Gable, Winston Churchill, Bob Hope, Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford, Jack Benny, John F. Kennedy, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Franklin D. Roosevelt and, of course, Marilyn Monroe, with and without clothes. His easiest photo subject? Clark Gable. His toughest? Joan Bennett. Following a long and profitable career helping to publicize motion picture personalities, he drifted the commercial advertising/photography field where he has remained as one of the leading exponents in the business. Of course, his most famous image was of Marilyn Monroe nude...
