All prints MADE TO ORDER - allow additional time. Luca Campigotto uses big equipment to capture big subjects, from the absolute vibrant density of 5POINTZ at night, to the eerie stillness of the stone statues on Easter Island, to sweeping cityscapes of Manhattan and Chicago skylines. His photographic expeditions have taken him to disparate and exotic locations around the world – Japan, India, Thailand, Cambodia in the Far East; many European and North American cities; as well as Cairo, Lapland, Argentina, and Easter Island. Campigotto uses both large-format and digital cameras for his projects. His cityscapes feature blurred lines of traffic recorded over long exposures, in bustling settings like Times Square, and yet a stillness pervades his work, a sense of vulnerability. Some of his 5POINTZ images were captured just days before the buildings were white-washed; his Argentine glacier is retreating; the Easter Island statues stand testament to lost civilizations. The Hopper-esque image offered here is from a series of New York City images, later published in a sold-out monograph entitled "Gotham City," published in 2012 by Damiani. Campigotto’s works are held in private and public collections worldwide, including Maison Européenne de la Photographie (Paris), Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo (Rome), Museo Fortuny (Venice), the Andrew & Christine Hall Collection, the Margulies Collection in Miami, the Progressive Collection in Cleveland, Fidelity Worldwide Investments, and the Canadian Center for Architecture in Montreal. In 2014, a solo exhibition of Teatri di Guerra/Theaters of War showed in Rome and at the Doge Palace in Venice, featuring Campigotto images taken in the Dolomites - historic sites from World War I, documenting the stark and solemn landscape where soldiers sought shelter, fought, and died. The exhibition was accompanied by a new book, the tenth monograph of his work published since 1995. Luca Campigotto was born in Venice in 1962, and now lives and works in both Milan and New York City. He holds a degree in modern history, and has been photographing landscape, architecture, and industry since the 1980’s.
