Private Collection, Barcelona
Francesc Xavier Valls Subirà (18 September 1923 in Barcelona – 16 September 2006 in Barcelona) was a Spanish painter.
He learned the technique of painting with Charles Collet, a Swiss sculptor, who gave him private lessons. In 1949 he established his residence in Paris, where he moved in the environment of the Spanish painters displaced to the French capital. There he participated in Young Painting (Jeune Peinture) exhibitions with Bernard Buffet, Maurice Boitel, Daniel du Janerand, André Vignoles, Michel-Henry and other well-known painters. Initially interested in cubism, he evolved towards abstract art and ended up moving to figurative art, where he was compared to Francisco de Zurbarán for the precision and simplicity of his lines and the excellence of his still lifes.
His work can be found in several museums in Spain and France, mainly the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum, the Juan Gris Gallery, the Lanzarote Museum of Contemporary Art, the Faro de Cabo Mayor Art Center Museum, Santander and the Font National d' Art Contemporary of Paris.
His awards include Commander of Arts and Letters in France, 1979; the Prix Drouant Critics Award in Paris; the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts obtained in 1993; National Prize for Plastic Arts of the Government of Catalonia. He is the father of Manuel Valls, former Prime Minister of France. He married the Swiss Luisangela Galfetti, sister of the renowned architect Aurelio Galfetti.
Xavier Valls died on September 16, 2006 at his home in Horta, Barcelona, at the age of 82.

- "Boulevard of Paris", 20th Century oil on canvas by Spanish artist E. Grau SalaBy Emilio Grau SalaLocated in Madrid, ESEMILIO GRAU SALA Spanish, 1911 - 1975 BOULEVARD OF PARIS signed Grau Sala (lower right) oil on canvas 25-1/2 X 32 inches (65 X 81 cm.) framed: 36-1/4 X 42-1/2 inches (92 X 108 cm.) PROVENANCE Sale: Sotheby´s Olympia London, 20 October 2006 Emilio Grau Sala came from a family of artists. He was born in Barcelona in 1911 and his father, a good cartoonist, had been one of the promoters of the "Salon des Humanistes" and made his exhibitions normally in the Parés Hall. His first works were exhibited at the Salon des Independents, in the years 1930-33. Grau Sala was essentially a Mediterranean painter, son of post-impressionism and enriched with French painting of the last fifty years. In this work Grau Sala has a loose, subtle brushstroke, in which the color shapes the entire work. The bright and transparent whites that give life to young schoolgirls contrast with the brushstrokes of blacks from the nun who accompanies them. The explosion of greens is refreshing, it surrounds us and transports us to an idyllic place, even if it is a citizen boulevard, which becomes friendly and beautiful. His works can be found in the Museums of the Villa de Paris, L'Ile de France Museum, at the Château de Sceaux, Honfleur Museum, La Rochelle Museum, Barcelona Museum, Tossa de Mar...Category

(lower right) oil on canvas 19-3/4 x 25-1/2 inches (50 x 64.5 cm.) framed: 27-3/4 x 33-3/8 inches (70 x 84.5 cm.) PROVENANCE Private Collector, Madrid An elegant night view of the Parisian Republic Square, with amazing light effects that catch us. This work executed based on brushstrokes of long and safe strokes that make the forms vibrate with vivid color. Parisian nightlife is trapped in this corner of Paris. The monumental sculpture that symbolizes freedom and that presides over the square serves as a reference behind the tram between a light chiaroscuro. Meanwhile, the effervecent and lively life of the cafes that surround it vibrate strongly with its bright lights. Èdouard León Cortés (1882–1969) was a French post-impressionist artist of French and Spanish ancestry. He is known as "Le Poète Parisien de la Peinture" or "the Parisian Poet of Painting" because of his diverse Paris cityscapes in a variety of weather and night settings. Cortes was born on August 6, 1882, in Lagny-sur-Marne, about twenty miles east of Paris. His father, Antonio Cortés, had been a painter for the Spanish Royal...Category
