Robert Goldstrom
East River, Con Ed, Panorama (Cityscape of Brooklyn, Williamsburg Bridge)

2022

About the Item

East River, Con Ed, Panorama Savings Bank Tower Skyline in Brooklyn, NY Cultural District, Williamsburg Bridge Painted by Robert Goldstrom in 2022, 10 x 8 inches, 12.5 x 10.5 inches framed in black wood frame Robert Goldstrom, long time Brooklyn resident, is well known for his poignant and enchanting paintings of his beloved borough. This painting weaves the artist's impeccable skill with interesting and dynamic city views, convey in a pointillist style. The artist carefully observes scenic details and infuses it with a mood derived from soft, peppered brushwork and Hopper-esque lighting. The artist uses color and fluctuating sunlight to create the illusion of density as a grid of buildings stack up against the horizon. Goldstrom’s views of Brooklyn, painted as studies or full-scale tableaux, are captured at various times of day to reveal shifts in color and perspective. Goldstrom’s studies of city skylines are painted at various times of day, offering slight shifts in perspective while chasing sunlight. His panoramic portals mimic the horizontal view of where skyscrapers and bridges meet cloud and sky as seen from the street or a top story window. The Williamsburg Bank Building - an iconic beacon for many Brooklynites and the artist’s own “Mt. Fuji”- can be spotted in many of his paintings. Artist Statement: "I have been painting the Williamsburg Savings Bank Building and its place in the Brooklyn landscape for about ten years with some frustration. Many of these paintings want to be big, but their size has been limited by the size of my studio, located in the front bedroom of our Brooklyn townhouse. Ironically, since moving my studio to a barn in the Hudson Valley, these Brooklyn paintings have finally begun to live up to their potential." - Robert Goldstrom, 2016 About the artist: Robert Goldstrom lives and paints Upstate New York by way of Brooklyn, NY. After years of making a living as an illustrator, winning both Gold and Silver Medals from the Society of Illustrators, Robert turned more and more to creating personal work. Now a full-time artist, he usually works in series – The Anatomy Lesson, Aquarium Paintings, Bank Paintings – following an idea from image to image until it plays itself out. Robert has shown his work at MDH Fine Arts and Underbridge Pictures in New York City, the A Gallery in Provincetown , MA, Weiler House Fine Arts in Fort Worth, TX, and now Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY. His work is in the collection of The Smithsonian Institution, The Cooper Hewitt, and many private collections, and has been featured on television in CSI on CBS, the Fox series, The Following, and the forthcoming NBC series, Allegiance.

  • Garden Chair (Hudson Valley Landscape Painting of Country Wintertime Scene)
    By John Kelly
    Located in Hudson, NY
Hudson Valley landscape painting of a snowy country scene in the wintertime. Oil on linen, 34 x 26 inches John Kelly approaches the Hudson Valley landscape with the eye of an architect and the hand of an impressionist. With intense attention paid to form and light, Kelly nevertheless manages to abstract the landscape just slightly, breaking earth, sky, and atmosphere down to their most elemental qualities. In this painting, a snowy hillside is rendered in shades of white, cream, and blue, contrasted with the warm sienna and umber hue of the trees and a crimson chair. An expansive winter landscape can be glimpsed just beyond the treetops. About the artist: Hudson Valley based painter John Kelly received his education from the Art Institute of Boston and Buffalo State. He has been exhibiting around the northeastern United States since the 1970s. • Peach Lilies (Contemporary Still Life of Vibrant Tiger Lilies, Oil on canvas)
    By Dan Rupe
    Located in Hudson, NY
Peach Lilies (Contemporary Still Life of Vibrant Tiger Lilies, Oil on canvas) by Dan Rupe 22 x 22 inches oil on linen canvas Signed on reverse Artist Dan Rupe paints only from life, his composition ruled by his intuitive sense of formal order. He begins covering his canvas with a deep crimson wash. This ground gives his brilliant pure color , applied with an expressive, direct gesture, an electric charge. No matter how often or how long one looks at a Rupe painting, it is always the present tense. The tone of his palette, the freshness and clarity of primary colors, reflects an optimistic attitude, an intrinsic love of life. In this work, three vibrant peach colored lilies open their blooms amidst bright green grasses. Rupe succeeds at capturing the immediacy of his subjects be it flowers, buildings or people. Read below for an amusing profile written about the artist in 2003: You‘ve likely seen him on the streets of Hudson, seated before his canvas in a multi-colored paint daubed t-shirt and shorts, his straw hat providing shade for all but his tanned forearms and knees. His splattered Technicolor Walkman tape player...

  • Foothill Thunderhead
    By Katherine Kean
    Located in Palm Desert, CA
Interesting phenomena affect the look of the landscape, whether it is the light effects caused by the reflective particles thrown into the air by a volcano, or the strange twilight caused by a storm suddenly and dramatically changing the angle of the sun’s rays and for a moment, relighting the landscape. In this painting it is a thunderhead cloud forming suddenly above the mountains. This small alla-prima painting is created directly in a single session, on gallery wrapped linen, with 1 1/2 inch deep stretchers. The edges are hand painted, providing a finished look, suitable for framing, or beautiful left as is. Katherine Kean has exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States, and has been acquired by many private and corporate collections. She has been honored to have her work selected for Bloomingdales in Santa Monica, California, Schiffer's 100 Artists of the West Coast II, Paint America's Paint the Parks, Manhattan Arts Healing Arts International...
