About the Item
This exquisite portrait by British artist William Moore (1790-1851) depicts a young lady wearing a beautiful white dress with gigot sleeves. It’s a gentle portrayal representing the romanticised ideals of the 1830s. The portrait dates to circa 1833 when gigot sleeves were voluminous and resembled a ‘leg-o-mutton’.
William Moore was a notable artist and the father of Albert Moore (1841-1893). He’s best known for his depiction of Charles Dickens and also referred to as William Moore of York or William Moore Senior.
