About the Item
A stunning sky and cloud study by Gaston Prunier. Originally from Le Havre, the sea port where the Seine empties into the English Channel, Prunier was clearly fascinated with the effect of light on water, as well as with the commercial activity on and near the river.
If the definition of Impressionism is
"relatively small, thin, yet visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities (...), ordinary subject matter, inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience, and unusual visual angles" ... then here we have a perfect, original, period impressionist work from circa 1900. The painting, which is wonderfully fresh in colour, is signed at the lower right. It is presented in its original frame, with an exhibition label on the verso. The glass will be removed for shipping purposes. Overall framed size: Size of artwork only 50 x 65 cm.
